USAID. MISSION TO BANGLADESH
Summarizes the mid-term evaluation (PD-CAY-290) of a project to strengthen the capacity of the Bangladesh"s Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO) to analyze agro-climatic and other remote sensing data in the management of natural resources, particularly those related to agricultural and water development.
1990

Abstract
The project has been successful. SPARRSO has shown the ability to operate earth stations, to receive and process satellite data, and to deliver daily information. A wide variety of natural resource studies have been completed, and user acceptance of SPARRSO"s work is high. However, delays in equipment delivery continue to hurt implementation. In addition, many of the application areas have been completed but are outside the project scope, using data from other sources. Further, there needs to be stronger interaction and cooperative interchange with user agencies. The project needs to move from a research to operations orientation. Such a change will require increased integration of technical units and a shift to a functional type organizational structure to more effectively utilize SPARRSO"s technical resources.
