Grant to the International Eye Foundation (IEF) for a pilot project to help the Cameroon Ministry of Public Health to introduce and maintain ivermectin distribution in Dja et Lobo Division, South Province, an area of hyper-endemic onchocerciasis transmission.
1991

Abstract
Tulane School of Public Health (TSPH) will assist IEF in implementing the project. IEF/TSPH will: conduct epidemiologic and KAP surveys and a descriptive population census in the project area; train public sector and nongovernmental health personnel at the divisional, subdivisional, and health facility levels to distribute ivermectin; train volunteers to help with community-level distribution; and conduct health education and community sensitization programs. Under the pilot project, ivermectin will be distributed to 90% of the eligible population via health centers, mobile outreach activities, and community-based distributors. Information on the project will be gathered and analyzed, including information on the safety and cost-effectiveness of the various means of ivermectin distribution. The project will then take steps to integrate ivermectin distribution into the primary health care program in Dja et Lobo Division.
