AID cooperative agreement no. ANE-0004-A-00-0048-00 with World Environment Center to provide technical assistance, training, and information dissemination services related to urban and industrial pollution control in Eastern Europe

Activities will include strategic planning and assessment, and a regional environmental management and control program. The strategic planning and assessment program will help Eastern European governments formulate and implement environmental strategies. To this end, WEC will provide long- and short-term TA and advisory services to Ministries of Environment of selected countries in areas such as urban and industrial pollution, hazardous and solid waste management, environmental health and safety, policy and regulation, etc. Under a regional environmental management and control program, WEC will provide short- and long-term TA and training to industry representatives, plant managers, Ministry of Environment and industry officials, and private sector trade and business organizations. TA and training (both in-country and foreign) will address issues such as industrial compliance with environmental regulations, industrial pollution control, community awareness of environmental issues, and legal reforms in environmental management. WEC will also disseminate information through industry and problem specific technical publications, training materials for environmental programs (i.e., films, handbooks, booklets, etc.), and will publicize its own functions and services to potential clients.
