AID grant agreement no. 521-0206-G-00-3035-00 with the Cooperative Housing Foundation (CHF) in support of its solid waste clean - up project to clean up and maintain targeted areas in Port-au-Prince and to employ as many people as possible in the effort

CHF will focus on cleaning up the streets and canals in areas of Port-au-Prince (including Carrefour, Marche de la Saline, Croix des Bossales, and Cite Soleil), where waste pollution is at its worst and in which a large percentage of the city"s poor lives. Clean-up will be contracted out by CHF to private companies, and a labor-intensive strategy will be followed. Approximately 4,000 people will be hired over a one-year period. CHF will coordinate its efforts with local NGOs and the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF). The Water and Sanitation for Health (WASH) project will provide TA.
