Subproject to write five small business manuals/guides for use by members of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (CCIA) of Guinea-Bissau.
1993

Abstract
Africare will implement the subproject. Africare will hire a multidisciplinary team of long- and short-term, local and international personnel to research, write, and design camera-ready manuscripts for business guides on the following topics: (1) developing a successful small business in Guinea Bissau; (2) developing a financial tracking system; and (3) fulfilling one"s tax obligation; (4) importing and exporting; and (5) a topic to be determined on the basis of a CCIA membership survey, needs assessments, and field testing of the other guides. Research for the guides will include surveys and needs assessments, along with a review of business training materials available or in production by Guinea Bissaun, Brazilian, Portuguese, and/or lusophone African public and private training institutions, and international donors. The guides themselves will consist of 30-45 page booklets written in easy to read Portuguese for target audiences with primary school educations (a Criolo translation will also be prepared) and following a standard format permitting individual sections to be updated in accordance with changes in the policy and regulatory environments. The concluding section of each guide will consist of a resource directory for further assistance available in Guinea-Bissau. Additional phases, not part of this subproject, will include publication and distribution of the manuals/guides and the organization of associated training courses.
