Abstract
The main thrust of IESC"s activities will be the transfer of business skills to small and medium-sized private enterprises (SME"s) (those with less than $3 million in gross annual revenues or fewer than 100 employees), especially labor-intensive enterprises, and to local private business organizations. Particular attention will be given to promoting women-owned businesses, agribusiness, and businesses in rural areas. Because of the difficulties of working individually with smaller businesses, assistance to micro businesses will be channeled through local umbrella organizations. Other project activities will focus on strengthening local institutions devoted to private sector development, especially local professional associations, commercial associations, and chambers of commerce. Also, where appropriate, the project will support and assist efforts to privatize government entities.
