Grant is provided under the PVO Co-Financing Project in the Dominican Republic to Liga Dominicana Contra el Cancer (LDCC) to conduct a promotional/education campaign for early detection and treatment of breast and cervical cancers among poor women in Santo Domingo.
1993

Abstract
LDCC will implement an educational program in preventive health in the National District. The program, which will be institutionalized within the Oncology Institute Dr. Heriberto Pieter, will take place on two levels: (1) primary prevention, which will include dissemination of educational messages through various media (including radio and TV) and an extension program of community health education and promotion; and (2) secondary prevention, which will include examinations at the Oncology Institute and in a mobile unit which will tour poor neighborhoods and refer women with breast or cervical abnormalities to the Institute for treatment. Women health promoters will be trained in workshops to assist in follow up on these activities. LDCC will rely heavily on community involvement in implementing the project.
