Grant is provided under the Environment/Global Climate Change project (5980784) to Programme for Belize (PFB), an indigenous nonprofit corporation, to support its program for managing the Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area (RBCMA), a protected environmental area in the northwest area of the country, in a way that combines conservation and resource extraction.

Abstract
PFB will use grant funds to: (1) develop and maintain a boundary defense and security system for the RBCMA through road patrols, aerial surveys, and guard houses; (2) develop a land use plan; (3) hire security guards, research station and park managers, and short-term advisors; and (3) undertake feasibility studies on timber extraction, the harvesting of allspice and chicle, and development of a nursery to propagate and protect endangered tropical conifers.
