Abstract
(PRIDE) -- an indigenous Kenyan organization formed in 1989 with help from CID -- and to expand PRIDE"s small enterprise credit program. CID/PRIDE will replicate a credit program they have already established in Baringo using a model derived from the Grameen Bank approach. The new program, in Nyahururu, will provide loans to 1,500 small entrepreneurs. By the end of the project, it is anticipated that 15% of clients will graduate to the KSh.15,000 loan level and that 1,000 clients will open accounts with commercial banks. Institution building activities will include the following. (1) PRIDE"s board will be expanded by two new members and four retreats will be held to discuss the credit programs. (2) All of PRIDE"s senior staff will receive training in program management, financial management, monitoring, and evaluation. (3) Improved manuals will be prepared for operations, procedures, accounting, and the management information system. (4) Six branch staff will be trained in branch operations, credit policies, procedures, and computers. (5) A general manager and trainer will be hired for PRIDE headquarters.
