Abstract
The project comprises two components: (1) institutional strengthening of the YWCA; and (2) provision of business assistance to women entrepreneurs. Objectives of the institution-building component are to: (1) develop an integrated YWCA program for small enterprise development and an internal training capacity at the national and branch levels; and (2) strengthen YWCA"s planning, management, and evaluation capabilities, including computerization of programming and administrative operations. In the business assistance component, the YWCA will (1) continue to provide business skills training to 171 women"s groups in its five branches, and (2) initiate a pilot program to augment this training with credit for four women"s groups with a total membership of 120 women in the Meru branch. Training and TA will be provided to the YWCA by the Kenya Rural Enterprise Program and a U.S. PVO, yet to be identified.
