Abstract
This project will address weaknesses of the alternative media in Kenya in regard to news analysis and reporting, layout design, and editing. AFIP will conduct: (1) a 1-week course on analytical reporting and editorial and commentary writing for 26 participants; (2) a 1-week course on investigative reporting for 20 journalists; (3) a 1-week course on political and economic reporting; (4) a 1-week seminar for 20 journalists on how to conduct opinion polls; (5) a 3-day seminar for 100 participants on the press, propaganda, and politics. AFIP will publish the seminar proceedings. In sum, the project will provide a significant number of journalists with skills enabling them to contribute positively to the creation of a more democratic culture in Kenya.
