Abstract
Continuing the supervised credit program which it developed under the Private Enterprise Project (VITA-PEP -- 6980502.04B), VITA will provide credit and business advisory services (e.g., in business planning, management, market development, market information, brokering, etc.) to small and medium-sized business, especially those involved in food production. A data base on potential investment areas for clients will be developed, along with a computerized VITA/PEP management information system. A key goal is the institutionalization of the credit program and its incorporation into Chadian financial systems. Expected outputs include: (1) 340 new loans -- 226 for traditional rural activities, 100 for new small businesses near or in N"Djamena, and 14 for non-traditional industrial activities -- and over 600 resulting new jobs; (2) training of some 300 loan recipients and VITA/PEP staff; and (3) VITA/PEP Chadian staff increased during the process of institutionalization from 9 to 13 professionals and 5 to 7 non-professionals.
