Grant is provided under Development of Environmental Management Systems project (5980605) to The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in support of a program to protect biological diversity in Peru by establishing and initially managing Yanachaga-Chemillen National Park and San Matias-San Carlos Protection Forest.

Abstract
TNC will also undertake institutional strengthening of a Peruvian conservation NGO -- Fundacion Peruana para la Conservacion de la Naturaleza (FPCN) -- and of the Conservation Data Center (CDC) at the Universidad Nacional Agraria, "La Molina." Project activities will involve environmental management of the park and construction of research, educational, and visitor facilities within it; inventory and management of biota in the area; hiring of rangers, guides, and other personnel; planning for sustained use of the San Matias Protection Forest; planning for integral use of natural resources in the border area; educational activities for local communities; and training of FPCN and CDC personnel.
