Grant is provided under the Development of Environmental Management Systems project to the New York Botanical Garden to study the economic botany of plants at selected sites in the forest of the Amazon region of lowland Eastern Ecuador.

Abstract
The NYBG will identify economically important plants in the region and make them available for evaluation and distribution; train Ecuadorean scientists through their participation in these activities; prepare a data base of forest tree and other diverse species of current and potential use; and promote networking between foresters and botanists, both within Ecuador and with other countries.
