1985

Abstract
The FUHRIL program will begin in the Central District and gradually be expanded nationwide via the participation of some 15 Honduran organizations. The project will provide training in special education to 60 teachers and will select 8 health professionals for U.S. university study in physical therapy and counseling. These trainees will then develop programs to rehabilitate and train the Honduran handicapped in institutional and vocational areas. On-the-job training will be provided to 80 handicapped persons in three small industrial activities - wheelchair, broom, and toy manufacturing. TA will be provided to 10 FUHRIL staff members in project implementation and seminar implementation/evaluation and 6 FUHRIL instructors in the areas of rehabilitation and vocational training. A public awareness campaign will be launched by 55 professional volunteers trained by the project. The campaign will emphasize the need to eliminate physical and social barriers to the handicapped and incorporate the handicapped into mainstream society. Principal activities will be: 83 conferences and 3 seminars, distribution of about 300,000 printed materials, and 15 TV spots, 14 radio spots, and 12 radio forums. The project will also assist FUHRIL in implementing a nationwide fundraising campaign to obtain outside technical, material, and financial resources to attain programmatic self-sufficiency.
