1984

Abstract
Project HOPE will furnish an estimated 240 person-months (P/M"s) of health expertise by recruiting volunteer health professionals and technicians. The project will focus on direct medical and dental services (144 P/M"s). HOPE volunteers will provide urgently needed medical and dental services at St. George"s Hospital and ambulatory care at Princess Alice and Princess Royal Hospitals. These personnel will include: 2 family practitioners, 2 pediatricians, 2 general surgeons, 1 obstetrician/gynecologist, 1 anesthesiologist, 1 pathologist, 1 internist, and 2 dentists. Working within the structure of the Ministry of Health, these clinicians will diagnose and treat patients and, where feasible, train Grenadian counterparts. In addition, medical (principally pediatricians and family practice physicians) and dental personnel will provide consultations in 6 health centers and 26 medical stations, as appropriate. Two medical technologists (24 P/M"s) will improve laboratory services at St. George"s Hospital, and, if feasible, establish laboratories at Princess Alice and Princess Royal Hospitals. Grenadian medical technologists will be trained as laboratory supervisors. Technical personnel (39 P/M"s) will provide TA in the following areas: (1) supply management (procuring, distributing, storing, and inventorying); (2) sanitation (vector control, water quality control, sanitary inspections, solid waste management, and sewage disposal); (3) biomedical engineering (repair and maintenance of medical equipment); and (4) preparation of a national health plan for Grenada. A director/public health physician (M.D., M.P.H.) (13 P/M"s) and a project administrator (13 P/M"s) will provide administrative support.
