Abstract
The trip was led by Elden Chamberlain, a Most at Risk Populations Specialist with AIDSTAR-Two. The primary objective of the trip was to finalize the MSM (Men Who Have Sex with Men) package of services, revise the workplan for Activity 2.2, and discuss the finalization of the Central Asia assessment. The MSM package of services aims to provide a comprehensive package of prevention, care, and support services for men who have sex with men and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in Eastern European countries. During the trip, Chamberlain worked intensively with consultants to finalize the MSM package of services, which was attached to the report. The package includes components such as HIV/STI prevention services, treatment, care, and support for MSM living with HIV, and enabling environment and community support for prevention and care. The report highlights the challenges faced during the trip, including working between Russian and English and ensuring that the spirit of the Russian version was not lost in translation. Chamberlain also noted that it was essential to balance the need for a succinct report for USAID purposes with the need to provide enough information on examples of best practice to enable the package to be utilized by civil society groups. The trip was deemed fruitful, and several key accomplishments were achieved. The MSM package of services was finalized, and the workplan for Activity 2.2 was revised. Chamberlain also held a meeting with consultants involved in the Central Asia assessment project to discuss the dissemination plan and next steps. The report outlines the next steps for continuing and completing work from the trip, including debriefing with USAID Washington, following up with consultants, and revising the budget for the Central Asia project. The MSM package of services is a comprehensive document that outlines the components of the package, including HIV/STI prevention services, treatment, care, and support for MSM living with HIV, and enabling environment and community support for prevention and care. The package includes examples from the region of application of the package of services, such as access to VCT and rapid testing on HIV, STI diagnostics and treatment experiences of Ukrainian NGOs, and individual and group counseling on HIV and STI. The report concludes by highlighting the importance of the MSM package of services in addressing the needs of men who have sex with men and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in Eastern European countries. The package aims to provide a comprehensive package of prevention, care, and support services to address the HIV epidemic in the region. The AIDSTAR-Two Project Trip Report for Ukraine provides valuable insights into the objectives and accomplishments of the trip and highlights the importance of the MSM package of services in addressing the needs of men who have sex with men and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in Eastern European countries. The report also includes a description of relevant documents, including the MSM package of services and the revised workplan for Activity 2.2.
