Abstract
The program aims to support the elimination of malaria in the region through research, monitoring, and evaluation. The program's results framework for Year 4 is outlined in Figure 1, which highlights the key objectives and indicators for achieving malaria elimination. Progress toward achieving results in the first quarter of Year 4 is summarized in Table 1. The table indicates that significant progress has been made in implementing malaria activities, with a focus on improving data collection, monitoring, and supervision. The program has also made strides in developing strategic information products, including reports and briefs, to inform decision-making. The program's implementation progress is further detailed in Chapter 2, which highlights the key activities and milestones achieved during the first quarter. The chapter notes that the program has made significant progress in improving the workflow for reporting malaria cases, with a focus on increasing the timeliness and completeness of data. Figure 2 illustrates the current and proposed workflows for improving data reporting, while Figure 3 shows the workflow for implementing the 1-3-7 strategy in Vientiane province. The program's monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities are also highlighted in Chapter 2. The chapter notes that the program has made significant progress in developing MEL indicator reports, including reports on malaria case follow-up and treatment completeness. Figure 4 illustrates the flowchart for malaria case follow-up in Thailand, while Figure 5 shows the foci reversion cohort analysis and Kaplan-Meier survival curve. The program's financial report for the first quarter of Year 4 is presented in Annex 3. The report indicates that the program has made significant progress in managing its finances, with a focus on ensuring timely and accurate reporting. The report also highlights the program's compliance with USAID's financial regulations and guidelines. The program's progress in implementing the National Treatment Guidelines (NTG) is also highlighted in Chapter 2. The chapter notes that the program has made significant progress in improving the completeness and accuracy of treatment data, with a focus on increasing the use of rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) and artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs). Figure 13 shows the drug efficacy evaluation – NTG treatment compliance, while Figure 14 shows the drug efficacy evaluation – complete follow-up rate. The program's progress in implementing the 1-3-7 strategy in Vientiane province is also highlighted in Chapter 2. The chapter notes that the program has made significant progress in improving the timeliness and completeness of malaria case reporting, with a focus on increasing the use of RDTs and ACTs. Figure 3 shows the workflow for implementing the 1-3-7 strategy in Vientiane province. The program's progress in developing strategic information products is also highlighted in Chapter 2. The chapter notes that the program has made significant progress in developing reports and briefs to inform decision-making, with a focus on improving the completeness and accuracy of data. The chapter also highlights the program's progress in developing a geographic information system (GIS) to support malaria elimination efforts. Overall, the program has made significant progress in implementing malaria activities, improving data collection, monitoring, and supervision, and developing strategic information products. The program's progress in implementing the National Treatment Guidelines and the 1-3-7 strategy in Vientiane province is also notable.
