Abstract
By 2/80, when A.I.D. funding reductions required a narrowing of original project scope, POPLAB had visited 13 countries to assess in-country technical capabilities and priorities in national demographic surveys. Of the resulting eight specific survey projects proposed, those for Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Jordan, and Somalia were approved; all except the Columbia plan involved a new suvey system for demographic measurement. TA and training were provided, in accordance with host country staff needs, in survey design, sampling, mapping, field organization and logistics, pretesting, manual preparation, data processing, tabulation, and analysis. On-the-job training was provided to LDC demographers in software installation and use for data processing and analysis both at UNC and onsite. POPLAB"s publication program has continued without the help of A.I.D. funds to provide demographic training aids to LDC"s. Although POPLAB produced most reports in a timely fashion, early project truncation caused delays in activities in Ecuador and Indonesia. POPLAB requests a 6 month, no cost extension to complete this work.
