Abstract
A general overview of the industry includes a discussion of the roles of both public and private sector companies, the government"s regulatory role and its key agency implementors, general pricing conditions, methods of distribution, and the labor picture. Subsequent sections analyze individual chemical products - soaps, detergents, and specialty cleaners; paints, varnishes, and lacquers; pesticides and insecticides; plastics, rubber, and synthetic fibers; alkalis, chlorine, and sodium chemicals; sulfuric and hydrochloric acids; textile chemicals, dyes, and pigments; industrial gases; and wood chemicals. Each section briefly describes the product and its uses, as well as methods of its manufacture and raw materials used; discusses present and projected demand, including where products are available, statistics on production, imports, exports, and growth rates; and reviews potential investment opportunities. A profile of 31 potential joint ventures, 26 developed as a result of the study, the rest developed by others, concludes the report. Appended are two lists - one of companies and government agencies interviewed for the study, the other of companies affiliated with the chemical industry sector of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Wealth.
