Abstract
Focus is on diseases affecting bread wheat, durum wheat, barley, oats, and triticale (important observations regarding the latter, a relatively new crop, are included). After an illustrated discussion of field and laboratory techniques and equipment, information is provided on the major varieties of rusts, Helminthosporium diseases, Septoria complex and septoria-like diseases, smuts and bunts, Fusarium diseases, root and crown diseases, leaf and head diseases, saprophytic and weakly pathogenic fungi, bacterial diseases, and viral and mycoplasmal diseases. The remaining sections discuss injury from nematodes and other pests; physiological and genetic plant disorders; and nutrient deficiencies and environmental stresses. Numerous color photographs of crop pests and disease manifestations are provided.
