Abstract
The activity aims to promote peaceful coexistence and collaboration in Nigeria by mitigating violent conflict in six states in the Northwest and Northcentral areas. CIPP empowers communities to prevent and respond to violence and violent extremism by strengthening skills and relationships, and fosters an enabling environment for peace through advocacy, media outreach, and linkages to development programs. CIPP builds the skills and relationships required for violence-prone communities to mitigate and manage conflict, resist rising extremism, and address root causes of conflict. The activity approach is centered on empowering local stakeholders, members of the community, and development partners to respond to local conflicts and respond in a timely and effective way to mitigate and de-escalate violence. CIPP uses an intentional approach to engage women through knowledge and skills, and provides stronger linkages to government and business to foster an enabling environment for peace. The activity has achieved several results, including a 27.7% increase in the number of conflicts reported from activity interventions supported by USG funds. Additionally, 98.44% of residents of USG-assisted communities believe their communities are peaceful, safe, and secure. CIPP has also empowered local stakeholders and members of the community to respond to local conflicts and respond in a timely and effective way to mitigate and de-escalate violence. CIPP has also achieved several other results, including a 71.8% increase in the knowledge of negotiation, mediation, dialogue facilitation, and conflict sensitivity skills among participants. Furthermore, CIPP has resolved 644 disputes resolved by program participants, and 201 disputes were prevented from becoming violent. The activity has also trained 503 leaders trained to reduce the appeal of violent extremism, and 500 policies related analyses, dialogues, meetings, or discussions were conducted. The activity has also engaged with various stakeholders, including local stakeholders, members of the community, and development partners. CIPP has also conducted several events, trainings, and activities to build support for peace and reconciliation among key stakeholders. The activity has also reached 14,790,700 host national inhabitants through public information campaigns to support peaceful resolution of conflicts. Overall, CIPP has made significant progress in promoting peaceful coexistence and collaboration in Nigeria, and has empowered local stakeholders and members of the community to respond to local conflicts and respond in a timely and effective way to mitigate and de-escalate violence.
