Abstract
THIS EFFORT IS BASED ON THE KNOWLEDGE THAT WITH PROPER TECHNOLOGY YIELDS CAN OFTEN BE DOUBLED OR TRIPLED WITHOUT SOIL DETERIORATION. THIS PROJECT DOES NOT ASSUME THAT TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER CAN BE MADE IN A SINGLE STEP. RATHER, IT PLANS TO APPLY MODERN TECHNOLOGY TO SOILS SIMILAR TO THOSE IN HAWAII OR PUERTO RICO. SELECTION WILL INCLUDE SOME COUNTRIES IN AFRICA, SOUTHERN AND EASTERN ASIA AND LATIN AMERICA. PROBABLE CROPS: CORN, UPLAND RICE OR SORGHUM, YAMS OR CASSAVA. OBJECTIVE: TO DEVELOP APPLICATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY SUITABLE TO LOCAL SOILS AND TO ESTABLISH CROP YIELD BENCH MARKS WHICH LOCAL GOVERNMENTS CAN USE IN DEMONSTRATIONS AND OTHER SOCIOECONOMIC MEANS FOR INTRODUCING IMPROVED METHODS TO THE LOCAL POPULATION.
