2021 · 152 pages

Abstract
The assessment aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the project's interventions in improving early grade reading outcomes. The project focused on the implementation of the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) tool, which measures reading skills among students in grades 1-3. The EGRA tool was developed and implemented with the technical assistance of School-to-School International and Chemonics International. The assessment was planned and administered with the support of staff members in the United States and in the USAID RWM project office in Tajikistan. The EGRA tool measures reading skills, including correct words per minute, oral reading fluency, and comprehension. The assessment was conducted in 2021, and the results showed that the project's interventions had a positive impact on early grade reading outcomes. The project's focus on teacher training, instructional materials, and community engagement contributed to improved reading skills among students. The assessment also highlighted the importance of ongoing support and monitoring to ensure the sustainability of the project's interventions. The report emphasizes the need for continued investment in early grade reading programs, particularly in rural areas where access to education is limited. The project's success in improving reading outcomes among students in grades 1-3 demonstrates the potential for similar programs to be replicated in other contexts. The report also highlights the importance of community engagement and parental involvement in supporting early grade reading outcomes.
