Abstract
The assessment will: (1) identify problems in Nicaragua"s transition to a democratic process; (2) define economic problems affecting the democratic process; (3) describe the means by which the UNO political party can be encouraged to support the executive and legislative branches; (4) describe the role of the National Assembly and what legal and constitutional changes need to be considered; (5) consider the establishment of general interest organizations in areas of strong contra resistance settlements; (6) suggest improvements in the civil registry process and electoral procedures; (7) review the training and developmental needs of municipalities; (8) describe the role of the Centrist faction of the Catholic Church and other religious factions in the democratic process; (9) identify the training and infrastructural needs of political parties and action groups; and (10) identify means of conducting civic education and of assisting trade unions. This contract is part of EGAD"s democracy component.
