Abstract
The program aims to strengthen the leadership and management capacities of cooperative leaders, enabling them to contribute to the development of their organizations and the cooperative movement in Peru. The program, initially known as Escuela de Dirigentes, was first implemented as a training program based on competencies to enhance the management skills of coffee cooperative leaders. However, it was later expanded to cover all organizations operating under the cooperative model, resulting in the creation of ELCA: Escuela de Líderes Cooperativistas Agrarios. This national program is designed to provide training and capacity-building opportunities for cooperative leaders from various sectors. The role of the cooperative leader is crucial in the development of their organization, as they represent the cooperative, organize, plan, and control its technical and administrative activities, ensuring compliance with agreements and statutes. They also guide the organization towards success, both internally and in its relationships with the community and markets. The Central Café y Cacao del Perú considers the development of this initiative essential, acknowledging the support provided by SOS FAIM, DGCD of Belgium, and USAID/PERÚ's Program of Alternative Development. The program's development is a result of the collective effort and commitment of various actors, including the Central Café y Cacao del Perú, cooperatives, leaders, administrators, and technicians. The first group of graduates has provided valuable feedback and insights, enabling the program to refine its concepts and make them more applicable to real-world scenarios. The Escuela de Líderes Cooperativistas Agrarios is a significant initiative aimed at strengthening the leadership and management capacities of cooperative leaders in Peru. By providing training and capacity-building opportunities, the program seeks to enhance the development of cooperative organizations and the cooperative movement as a whole.
