Abstract
The program aims to strengthen the management capabilities of cooperative leaders through a comprehensive approach that emphasizes sustainability and gender equity. The program, initially known as Escuela de Dirigentes, was first implemented in 2003 as a capacity-building program for coffee and cacao cooperative leaders. However, it was later expanded to cover all organizations operating under the cooperative model, resulting in the creation of ELCA: Escuela de Líderes Cooperativistas Agrarios. This national program is designed to equip leaders with the necessary skills to manage their organizations effectively, represent their cooperatives, and promote the cooperative movement in Peru. The role of the cooperative leader is crucial in the development of their organization, as they are responsible for representing the cooperative, organizing and planning its activities, controlling its technical and administrative performance, and ensuring compliance with agreements and statutes. They also play a key role in guiding the cooperative towards success, both internally and in its relationships with the community and markets. The Central Café y Cacao del Perú considers the development of this initiative essential, and it acknowledges the support received from SOS FAIM, the DGCD of Belgium, and the USAID/PERÚ's Alternative Development Program. The organization also expresses gratitude to its base cooperatives, as well as to the cooperative leaders, administrators, technicians, and students who have contributed to the program's development. The program's success is attributed to the collaboration and commitment of various stakeholders, including the Central Café y Cacao del Perú, its base cooperatives, and the cooperative leaders who have participated in the program. The program's focus on sustainability and gender equity has enabled it to make a positive impact on the development of the cooperative movement in Peru. The Escuela de Líderes Cooperativistas Agrarios is a comprehensive program that aims to equip cooperative leaders with the necessary skills to manage their organizations effectively and promote the cooperative movement in Peru. The program's success is a testament to the commitment of its stakeholders and its focus on sustainability and gender equity. The program's implementation is a result of the Central Café y Cacao del Perú's efforts to address the need for capacity-building among cooperative leaders. The organization recognized that this need was not limited to its base cooperatives, and therefore decided to expand the program to cover all organizations operating under the cooperative model. The program's curriculum is designed to equip leaders with the necessary skills to manage their organizations effectively, represent their cooperatives, and promote the cooperative movement in Peru. The program's focus on sustainability and gender equity has enabled it to make a positive impact on the development of the cooperative movement in Peru. The Escuela de Líderes Cooperativistas Agrarios is a program that has the potential to make a significant impact on the development of the cooperative movement in Peru. Its focus on sustainability and gender equity, combined with its comprehensive approach, makes it an essential tool for cooperative leaders seeking to strengthen their organizations and promote the cooperative movement in Peru.
