Abstract
The organization's program, Youth Work, offers young people vocational guidance, life skills training, employment placement services, business training, and support for starting small and medium-sized enterprises. These strategies aim to include young people in productive life, motivate them to continue studying, and convert them into positive role models in their communities. The study, "Evaluación Externa del Programa Youth Work México, (Cohorte 10)," aims to assess the labor and educational situation of 65 young people from Ciudad Juárez enrolled in Cohorte 10. The main findings indicate that the Youth Work program positively contributes to reducing the vulnerability of young people in relation to their labor and educational situation. The program's impact is evident in the significant increase in the number of young people with remunerated employment, from 2 to 21 individuals, representing a 950% increase. The average number of years of schooling among program participants is higher than that of the control group, and the number of young people with a secondary education or higher is greater than those with lower levels of education. The study also shows significant changes in the quality and formality of jobs, with an increase in the number of young people with a signed contract and a higher average number of hours worked per week. In terms of remuneration, the average hourly wage for young people with dependent employment increased from $11.87 to $21.61, placing them within the 47.3% of the population earning more than two minimum wages in the locality. The program also shows stability in reducing the vulnerability of young people in terms of education, with an average of 9.70 years of schooling among program participants. One of the main contributions of the program is the reduction of one of the most pressing problems in Ciudad Juárez: the increase in the number of young people who do not study and do not work. The program's impact on reducing the propensity of young people to engage in violent behaviors is also significant. The study highlights the importance of strengthening the program through alliances with local employers and government institutions to create a job bank for young people, as well as the development of a program to link young people with educational institutions, social organizations, and local foundations to facilitate access to educational scholarships. The program's impact is evident in the significant changes in the labor and educational situation of young people, with a reduction in the number of young people who do not study and do not work, and an increase in the number of young people with remunerated employment and higher levels of education. The program's contribution to reducing the vulnerability of young people in terms of education and employment is significant, and its impact is expected to be sustained through the strengthening of the program.
