Abstract
and relevant LDC organizations. CFSC will implement the project. CFSC will establish collaborative arrangements with FP or demographic research organizations in two or three LDC"s and will assist these organizations in collecting demographic and other data related to the demographic impact of FP programs. This will be accomplished primarily via surveys and/or via the development of ongoing client record systems to monitor FP program outputs. CFSC will also assist host country personnel in analyzing these data and will provide these personnel with on-the-job training and small, in-country seminars in the use of analytical methods and tools and computers. CFSC will also conduct a comprehensive evaluation of FP programs in two or three selected LDC"s (including one assisted in the previously mentioned activity) and will use these evaluations to make recommendations for improved program development and project implementation. CFSC will also offer support services to LDC"s in a variety of areas. CFSC will refine a computerized evaluation methodology for measuring FP program impact in such areas as birth interval analysis, computation of fertility measures, private sector performance in FP, and international acceptance of various contraceptive methods. CFSC will disseminate this model to LDC"s and will also develop manuals which compile the information analyzed by the computers, complete with pertinent computer programming techniques. CFSC will offer M.A., Ph.D, and short-term training to host country personnel in the use of FP computerized methods, survey research methods, and demographic analytical methods. Host country participants will also attend a CFSC summer workshop and five overseas workshops in which computer programming and evaluation methodologies will be taught. Finally, CFSC will revise its current population and FP goals in order to assist LDC"s to plan for future FP programs. Project Paper amendment of 1/20/78 contains authorizations to complete impact evaluations in Indonesia and Costa Rica; to undertake up to two additional impact evaluations; to further analyze Northern Thailand Fertility Survey data; to continue tabulation of the 1974-75 Egyptian National Demographic Survey; to revise population forecasts; to conduct up to three workshops in Latin America; and to revise and publish plans for second-stage analysis of World Fertility Survey data.
