Family Health International"s Women"s Studies Project supports social and behavioral science research on the immediate and long-term effects of family planning programs and methods on the lives of women in six emphasis countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Zimbabwe.

Abstract
This document contains background information that was first assembled in preparation for needs assessment visits to the six countries and was revised in the second year of the project. For each country, the report covers health and demographic statistics, women"s status, contraceptive use and supply, family planning policy, family planning infrastructure, family planning research capability, family planning media use, the Women"s Studies Project agenda, and references. A final section summarizes the information in a table for cross-country comparisons.
