Reflections on gender and fertility in Brazil : abstracts

This document provides abstracts of six recent studies of how fertility decline in Brazil has affected women in relation to work, education, and other psychosocial aspects of their lives.

Abstract

The studies treat the following issues: the role of contraceptives in empowering women; the effect of AIDS on reproductive health programs; trends in the interplay between motherhood and female work; how limitations in contraceptive choice can increase abortion; why violence against women has increased with fertility decline; and the impacts of fertility decline on children"s education.
