Abstract
The project's primary goal is to enhance the quality of education in Georgia's primary education system. The project is implemented by Chemonics International Inc. in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The project's activities in January 2015 included training and professional development for teachers and school administrators. A total of 106 principals attended a one-day workshop, where they received recommendations to support the implementation of G-PriEd activities in their schools. The workshop covered topics such as diagnostic assessments, data analysis, and parental engagement activities. The workshop was attended by 106 out of 122 principals, representing a participation rate of 87%. The project also focused on improving teacher effectiveness in teaching reading and math. In January 2015, 250 primary math teachers received training, and 93% of teachers attended training sessions. The project also provided training for 108 schools on school-based teacher evaluation and feedback from principals. The project's technical assistance and support activities included providing sample materials and quality assurance procedures to support TLC facilitators. The project also supported and monitored the work of the teacher facilitators in pilot schools. In January 2015, 110 schools submitted semi-annual reports on TLC activities, which included information on TLC meetings conducted by the facilitators. The project's geographic focus is on Georgia, with a particular emphasis on improving education in ethnic minority schools. The project's timeframes are from 2012 to 2015, with the goal of expanding to more schools and increasing the number of students served. The project's recommendations include the implementation of school-based mechanisms for promoting professional development of math and reading teachers. The project also recommends the development of a concept for improving teachers' instruction of reading and math through training and school-based professional development. The project's technical assistance and support activities will continue to support the work of the teacher facilitators in pilot schools. The project's impact evaluation will assess the effectiveness of the project's activities and interventions. The evaluation will examine the changes in student achievement, teacher effectiveness, and school-level outcomes. The evaluation will also assess the project's sustainability and scalability. The project's budget and funding are provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the American people. The project's implementation is led by Chemonics International Inc. in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
