Abstract
hospitals. The project will benefit land mine or other war-related victims or severe burn cases who cannot be treated by local facilities within a reasonable time. Working in coordination with the Salvadoran Ministry of Health, the Human Rights Commission, ISRI (unidentified acronym), and the Teleton Foundation Pro-Rehabilitation, and the temporary prosthesis effort funded under project 5190178, Project HOPE will establish an operational capacity in El Salvador to: (1) match 100-120 seriously injured Salvadoran civilians with offers of free medical assistance from U.S. medical institutions; (2) obtain necessary travel documentation for the patients and their guardians (e.g., passports, visas); and (3) coordinate logistical arrangements for U.S. travel and lodging. Transportation and lodging costs will be borne, respectively, by U.S. carriers and U.S. community sponsors.
