Grant is provided under the Transfer of Technology Project in Senegal (6850281) to the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) to conduct applied agricultural price policy research in collaboration with the BAME (unidentified acronymn) of the Senegalese Institute for Agricultural Research (ISRA).
1988

Abstract
Overall research objectives are to: (1) measure the level and composition of household food consumption, with particular reference to millet, maize, and sorghum vs. rice and wheat, and the supply of coarse grains vs. cowpeas, peanuts, and cotton; and (2) measure the responsiveness of the items to changes in output and input prices, incomes, and other non-price factors. A survey will be conducted covering diverse zones and income groups in rural and urban areas in the Peanut Basin and Eastern Senegal and generating 2 years of bimonthly household-level data. Analysis of the survey data will focus on simulating the effects of price and non-price policy options on demand, supply, and real income, with aggregate consequences for the balance of payments and the government budget. A major concomitant goal is to build BAME"s institutional capacity to undertake high-quality policy research.
