Grant to the Armenian General Benevolent Union of America (AGBUA) to support social welfare services in Bourj-Hammoud, a neighborhood on the border of East and West Beirut, Lebanon, which has experienced large-scale destruction during the 10/78 and 9/79 civil strife.

Abstract
The project will provide three forms of assistance. (1) The AGBUA will establish a revolving fund to help families repair damage to stores, shops, and businesses. Loans will be made for a maximum of $3,000. (2) The project will provide various forms of assistance to widows and orphans, including: tuition for about 500 orphans (through secondary levels); medical insurance for widows and orphans until the eldest daughter is 18 or the eldest son is 16 years old; rent assistance for widows whose eldest daughter is not yet 18 or eldest son is not yet 16; and monthly allocations for widows with children under six years of age. (3) Finally, support will be provided for home rehabilitation and reconstruction. Low-income families will receive grants of up to $3,000, while families above the poverty level will receive a percentage of the necessary repair costs. The project"s target population numbers around 120,000.
