Abstract
The report draws on a variety of international data sources and uses international benchmarking against reference group averages, comparator countries, and statistical norms to identify major constraints, trends, and opportunities for strengthening growth and reducing poverty. This study uses two other countries in the same Latin America-Caribbean region, Belize and Suriname, as comparators. Suriname, a lower-middle-income economy, provides a good baseline for direct comparison, whereas Belize, an upper-middle-income economy, represents an aspiration. In addition, Guyana"s performance is also compared to median values of various indicators for lower-middle-income (LMI) countries as a group and for lower-middle-income Latin America and Caribbean (LMI-LAC) countries as a group.
