Abstract
The report draws on a variety of international data sources and uses international benchmarking against reference group averages, comparator countries, and statistical norms to identify major constraints, trends, and opportunities for strengthening growth and reducing poverty. This study of Nigeria uses Kenya and Indonesia as comparators. Kenya is the dominant economy in East Africa, as Nigeria is in West Africa, yet the World Bank classifies both as low-income countries. Indonesia, a lower-middle-income country in Southeast Asia is, like Nigeria, an important producer of oil but has been far more successful in diversifying exports. (Author abstract)
