Presents final contractor report on a project to develop, test, and promote technologies useful in child health care.
1990

Abstract
The report covers the period 7/87-7/90. The project has made significant progress. To date, of more than 60 unsolicited technology proposals, 20 technologies have been approved for inclusion in the project, including 4 injection technologies, 5 adjunct technologies for immunization/vaccination, and 5 technologies for maternal care, 3 for newborn care, and 3 for primary health care. Several of the technologies have completed or are undergoing laboratory tests and/or field trials, and in the case of two technologies (BIRTHweigh and PATHstrips for protein), production capability has been transferred or almost completely transferred to one or more developing countries. Collaboration has been established with 12 private organizations, usually for the development or manufacture of different technologies. Collaborations have also been established with the major international public health agencies, including UNICEF and WHO. WHO, for example, has issued product information sheets on one project technology, and has approved another for possible purchase by UNICEF. Information dissemination activities have included distribution of (1) an issue of "Health Technology Directions" dedicated to the subject of immunizations to over 6,000 Third World recipients, and (2) over 1,000 project-related brochures to almost all USAID Missions. Technical information on individual technologies developed under the project is included.
