USAID. MISSION TO JAMAICA
Project to assist Jamaica in recovering from the devastating impact of Hurricane Gilbert, which hit the island in September 1988.
1989

Abstract
The project will have three components: (1) to fund TA, commodities and equipment to restore infrastructure (including power and communications systems, water systems, schools, homes, and courthouses); (2) to rehabilitate the agricultural and small enterprise sectors by providing production credit and TA to farmers (focusing on the banana and poultry subsectors) and establishing a lending program for small- and micro-entrepreneurs; and (3) to provide targeted relief to the poor through a grant to the Council of Voluntary Social Services/United Way of Jamaica and through a program of small grants for informal, uninsured enterprises destroyed or damaged by the hurricane.
