Abstract
The citations are presented under three headings: (1) analytical frameworks; (2) methodological papers; and (3) empirical studies. Under these headings, citations are listed alphabetically by author and include a letter in the left margin indicating the specific subtopic to which they pertain. Papers dealing with a particular subtopic may be found by scanning the left margin for this letter. Many of the articles touch only lightly on a subtopic, and it was a matter of judgment whether to list them or not; generally, the decision was made to include them. Articles which fit under two main headings are listed under both of them, each time with a complete annotation. The author would like to know of corrections or omissions, and also whether the present format of the work - which is very much still in progress - is useful. (Author abstract, modified)
