Abstract
Non-adherence to preventive measures continued, particularly during mass gatherings during the electoral campaign. In Cameroon, 2,086 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in November, mostly in the center and littoral regions. The IRC suspended distributions from November 13th to 20th while awaiting authorization from local authorities in Logue et Chari. The IRC implemented various interventions in November. In Burkina Faso, 3,500 WASH NFI kits were distributed to 12,588 members of 3,500 households. The kits were distributed to 24,588 individuals, with 12,678 being women and 11,910 being men. The IRC also trained 35 members of community health committees on structure management, financial management, and COVID-19 prevention. In Cameroon, individual awareness-raising on COVID-19 preventive measures was conducted for 22,731 individuals, and mass sensitizations were conducted for 155,661 individuals. The IRC also registered 1,537 households for distribution of handwashing kits. In Chad, 194 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in November, with the majority in N'Djamena. The IRC's teams in Diaderom and Liwa received threats from members of the Chadian military, leading to a temporary suspension of activities. However, the IRC continued to implement interventions in Chad, including distributing 21,094 NFI kits in Kaya, Mamdi, and Fouli departments. In Niger, 295 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in November, mostly in and around Niamey. The IRC distributed 11,967 kits to 55,919 individuals in Chétimari and Gueskerou and conducted post-distribution monitoring surveys in 20 of the 30 villages. The IRC reported various achievements in November. In Burkina Faso, 13,526 people were reached through COVID-19 prevention measures sensitizations. In Cameroon, 22,731 individuals were reached through individual awareness-raising on COVID-19 preventive measures, and 155,661 individuals were reached through mass sensitizations. In Chad, 80,194 people were reached through COVID-19 prevention measures sensitizations. In Niger, 72,272 people were reached through COVID-19 prevention measures sensitizations. The IRC plans to continue implementing interventions in December. In Burkina Faso, the IRC will install seven hand washing stations in Titao, conduct a post-distribution monitoring survey, and continue sensitizations on COVID-19 preventive measures. In Cameroon, the IRC will continue using household visits, megaphones, and radio broadcasts for COVID-19 sensitization and finalize the distribution of handwashing kits to 11,124 households. In Chad, the IRC will lead another advocacy workshop on risk communication and community feedback, conduct mass COVID-19 prevention sensitization, and conduct a second distribution of NFI kits. In Niger, the IRC will conduct post-distribution monitoring surveys in the remaining villages, continue radio broadcasts in Chetimari and Issari, and conduct refresher trainings for community health committees.
