Abstract
Working with the Government of the Republic of Zambia and other partners, the project seeks to improve coordination, planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation among organizations providing services to these children. Activities are also being implemented in 13 other districts in five Zambian provinces. The project identified a need for a directory of organizations providing services to orphans and vulnerable children at the district and community levels. Baseline assessments conducted by the Department of Social Welfare found that service delivery providers lacked a list of organizations in the sector, leading to difficulties in linking and referring children for services. To address this issue, Community Rising worked with partners to conduct mapping of OVC services and consolidate them in the form of a directory for each district. The directory was created through interviews with contact persons at the offices of listed organizations. A questionnaire was used to guide the interviews, and the information elicited was entered into a database developed for the project. Further verification was conducted to ensure the accuracy of the information. The directory includes a list of 53 organizations providing services to orphans and vulnerable children in Kabwe District. These organizations include schools, health centers, community-based organizations, and government agencies. The directory provides contact information for each organization, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. The organizations listed in the directory provide a range of services, including education, healthcare, food assistance, and psychosocial support. Some organizations specialize in specific areas, such as HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, while others provide a broader range of services. The directory is intended to serve as a resource for organizations and individuals working with orphans and vulnerable children in Kabwe District. It is hoped that the directory will facilitate coordination and collaboration among organizations, ultimately improving the lives of children in need. The directory includes a list of abbreviations used throughout the document, including terms such as ACC (Area Coordinating Committee), AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome), and OVC (orphans and vulnerable children). The directory also includes a list of acronyms used by organizations listed in the directory.
