Limited scope grant agreement between the United States of America, acting through the Agency for International Development (AID) and the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM)

The SP will be implemented by the University of Dar es Salaam (UDS). The system will be tested over a three-month period at the UDS Faculty of Engineering, after which it will be installed in the village of Mjawa, approximately 100 km south of Dar es Salaam. The system will power fluorescent lights and a refrigerator for storing vaccines in a dispensary which serves 10,000 people. UDS students and staff will benefit from "on-the-job" training in the evaluation of the photovoltaic system, and a local carpenter will be trained in system maintenance. Although the majority of the necessary equipment will be procured in the United States by a UDS staff member who will also make useful industry contacts while there, locally manufactured subcomponents such as batteries, regulators, booster mirrors, etc., will also be evaluated.
