Maternal and child health care promotion

CALMA will train some 4,700 persons (including mothers, community leaders, and Ministry of Health and PVO personnel) through seminars, lectures, and short courses in such areas as breastfeeding, nutritional habits, sex education, and early childhood stimulation methods. CALMA staff will receive short courses in management, finance, and the planning, administration, and evaluation of MCH care programs. CALMA promoters will receive additional background training in child survival techniques. To expand CALMA"s beneficiary coverage, the project will finance the printing of posters and booklets on nutrition, breastfeeding, and health care. A manual on mother-to-child care and attention and on breastfeeding will be developed. TA will be provided to help CALMA develop the financial mechanisms to become self-sustaining. CALMA will be aided in implementing a fee schedule for services, preparing proposals for external donors, and increasing its membership.
