Abstract
The assessment aimed to evaluate the availability and utilization of various health services, including maternal and child health (MCH) services, family planning (FP) services, vaccines, and nutrition services. The assessment revealed that the Igembe health facility provides a range of MCH services, including prenatal clinics, delivery services, postnatal clinics, and immunization services. The facility also offers FP services, including family planning counseling and provision of FP commodities. However, the assessment noted that the facility does not currently offer all FP methods, including condoms, pills, and IUCD. The facility has adequate FP room setup and complete demonstration trays for FP procedures. The assessment also found that the facility receives FP commodities through a push system and has adequate and timely supply of FP commodities. The facility ensures the availability of FP commodities through timely requisition and stock management. In terms of vaccines, the facility receives vaccine commodities through a push system. The assessment noted that the facility has a range of vaccine documents and tools, including tally sheets, immunization summary sheets, and temperature monitoring charts. The Igembe health facility also provides nutrition services, including growth monitoring, nutrition counseling, and vitamin A supplementation. The facility offers nutrition services to children below 5 years and to mothers/caregivers. The assessment noted that the facility has a range of nutrition tools and job aids, including growth monitoring charts and nutrition counseling guidelines. The facility has a referral system in place, including transport for referrals and referral forms. The assessment noted that the facility has a range of health education materials, including guidelines, policies, and job aids for patient education. The assessment also evaluated the availability and utilization of health records and performance tools at the facility. The assessment found that the facility has a range of tools, including daily activity registers, maternity registers, and facility monthly summaries. However, the assessment noted that some of these tools are not in use. The facility has a range of training programs for MCH service providers, including training on FANC, PMTCT, and IMCI. The assessment noted that the facility has a range of health education materials, including guidelines, policies, and job aids for patient education. Overall, the assessment found that the Igembe health facility provides a range of health services, including MCH services, FP services, vaccines, and nutrition services. However, the facility faces challenges in terms of availability and utilization of some health services and tools.
