Micro and small enterprises in central and northern Mozambique : results of a 1996 survey
Sign inMICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY. DEPT. OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS
In the period July-December 1996, a survey was undertaken in Central and Northern Mozambique of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) having up to 50 workers and engaged in non-agricultural activities.
1997

Abstract
The survey covered both urban and rural locations in four provinces (Nampula, Zambezia, Manica, and Sofala), plus one rural district in Tete Province. The survey shows that, while the MSE sector in Mozambique is very widespread and is growing rapidly, most enterprises operate on a part-time and supplementary basis, supplementing household income rather than being its principal source. There appears to be both a need and a desire for credit and non-financial assistance to improve the performance of the sector. (Author abstract, modified)
