The project aims to improve literacy levels among primary school students through various interventions, including teacher training, school renovations, and parental involvement. The project's implementation is overseen by a team of officials, including Programme Manager Dane Richardson, Training Officer Evadne Cowell, and M&E Officer Jo Anderson-Figueroa. One of the key activities of the project is the School of the Year Awards, which recognizes schools that have made significant improvements in literacy levels. However, due to delays in receiving information from participating schools, the project team has decided to push back the deadline for the awards and consider removing them altogether if valid information is not available. The project also focuses on teacher training, with the next scheduled in-service training session taking place from October 27 to 29 at Mico Teachers College. The training will focus on the proper use of diagnostic and assessment tools, and will target primarily teachers from Cohorts 3 and 4. In addition, the project is working on renovating schools in Cohorts 2 and 4, with renovations already completed at Bryce Primary and six of the seven schools in Cohort 4. The project team is also engaged in a parenting assessment partnership, which aims to provide guidance on the type of support that would be a best fit for each school to establish a Parents' Place. The project's progress is monitored through regular meetings and updates, with the next bi-weekly meeting scheduled to take place on November 6. The project team is also working on submitting a semi-annual report to USAID by October 30, which will provide an update on the project's progress and achievements.
