Abstract
The training objectives for this module aim to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to integrate STI prevention and care into their clinical practice. By the end of the training, participants are expected to be able to diagnose, manage, and follow-up on RTIs/STIs appropriately and according to standard guidelines. They will also be able to reduce STI-related morbidity and mortality, including infertility, and promote safer sex practices among their patients. The training methods and activities employed include interactive presentations, brainstorming, open discussions, work groups, worksheets, case studies, and visual displays. The agenda for Module 1: RTI/STI is structured to cover various topics, including introductions, expectations, logistics, and ground rules, as well as clinical assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment of common complaints. The first session of Module 1 focuses on introducing RTI/STI, where participants are expected to define RTI/STI, identify consequences, classify RTI/STIs based on site and causative agents, and identify sources of infections. The session also covers the importance of preventing, screening, and managing RTI/STIs, as well as the consequences of not doing so. The classification of RTI/STIs is presented, highlighting upper and lower genital tract infections, as well as the etiologic agents responsible for these infections. The sources of infections, including endogenous, sexually transmitted, and iatrogenic infections, are also discussed. The second session of Module 1 introduces The Standard Universal Precautions, which are essential for preventing the transmission of infections in healthcare settings. Participants are expected to describe and apply The Standard Universal Precautions into their practice and workplace. The training emphasizes the importance of reducing STI-related morbidity and mortality, including infertility, and promoting safer sex practices among patients. By equipping healthcare professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills, this training aims to contribute to reducing the incidence of RTIs/STIs and HIV.
