Abstract
The program began in 2012 and is set to conclude in 2017. The program's primary objective is to enhance the energy sector's efficiency, sustainability, and reliability. Component 1 of the program focuses on project monitoring and implementation. The GENCOs Performance Efficiency Improvement Program is a key component of this initiative, which aims to improve the performance of generation companies. The program has achieved significant results, including a 10% increase in power generation efficiency at the Guddu Thermal Power Station and a 12% increase at the Muzaffargarh Thermal Power Station. Component 2 of the program focuses on policy and reform. The program provides technical assistance to various government ministries, including the Ministry of Water and Power, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources. The program has supported the development of several policy documents, including the National Energy Policy and the Renewable Energy Policy. Component 3 of the program focuses on new projects, planning, and development. The program provides support to the government in identifying and developing new energy projects, including the Diamer Bhasha Dam Project and the Kurram Tangi/Kaitu Weir site. The program has also supported the development of a new transmission line to connect the Guddu Thermal Power Station to the national grid. Component 4 of the program focuses on new activities, including transmission and distribution. The program has supported the development of a new transmission line to connect the Jamshoro Thermal Power Station to the national grid. The program has also supported the installation of a secured metering system at the Guddu Thermal Power Station. Cross-cutting activities are also an essential part of the program. The program has supported capacity building activities, including training programs for government officials and energy sector professionals. The program has also supported gender activities, including the participation of women in energy sector decision-making processes. Monitoring and evaluation are also critical components of the program, and the program has established a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track progress and identify areas for improvement. The program has made significant progress in the past month, including the completion of several key activities and the achievement of several milestones. The program has also received positive feedback from government officials and energy sector stakeholders. The program's success is attributed to the strong partnership between the USAID Energy Policy Program and the Government of Pakistan, as well as the program's commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainability.
