Abstract
The project has three main goals: to enhance reading and math delivery in Georgia's primary education, to improve public engagement, accountability, and transparency in approximately 300 schools, and to improve reading and math skills for approximately 40,000 students. The project is divided into four components. Component 1 focuses on improving reading and math skills for approximately 40,000 students of grades 1-6, including ethnic minority students, in approximately 300 schools. Subcomponent 1.1 aims to improve teacher effectiveness in teaching reading and math, as well as the use of formative-based teaching approaches. The project has made significant progress in May 2015. A total of 487 schools, located on 474 campuses, were approved to be part of the expansion phase. Acceptance letters were sent to 487 schools, and rejection letters were sent to 79 schools with incomplete applications and 22 schools that submitted late applications. The project has also made progress in implementing its activities, including the development of a concept for improving teachers' instruction of reading and math through training and school-based professional development. The project has also conducted school visits to observe math and Georgian language teachers delivering their lessons and TLC facilitators conducting meetings. A total of 116 school visits were conducted, with 55 schools visited by reading trainers and 61 schools visited by math trainers. The trainers observed 213 Georgian language and 242 math teachers, as well as 105 TLC meetings. The project has also made progress in its public engagement and accountability efforts. The project has been presented at the Junior Achievement conference in Tbilisi, and the production of two animated videos on classroom management for teachers in the business skills sector has been completed. The project has also translated and adapted Grade 1 and 2 business skills curricular units. The project has also made progress in its implementation of its activities. The project has signed MOUs with 234 principals of expansion schools, and the remaining schools will sign in June. The project has also conducted conferences with 229 G-PriEd expansion school principals, and the project has finalized films on Classroom Observation and Constructive Feedback and Effective Principalship. The project has also made progress in its development of its resource portal. The project has continued filming of classroom scenes for the training zone of the resource portal, and the project has started development of the principal's guide on Instructional Leadership. The project has also begun production of Business Skills in Primary Education promotional materials. The project has also made progress in its public engagement efforts. The project has produced two animated videos on classroom management for teachers in the business skills sector, and the project has broadcast four one-minute videos on the importance of parental engagement in reading on the Maestro TV channel. The project has also observed the reading competition among parents and students in four schools. The project has also made progress in its implementation of its activities. The project has finalized the student newspaper, "The Times, " and the project has completed the development of supplemental leveled readers and leveled readers and books. The project has also continued the development of the resource portal and the resource portal's data center. The project has also made progress in its implementation of its activities. The project has finalized the development of conversational posters for GSL instruction, and the project has completed the development and review of reading instruction resource materials. The project has also cooperated with EMIS to link G-PriEd schools with EMIS's school and teacher database for access and verification purposes.
